Course Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Hermes Agent is everywhere right now, and most of the talk around it assumes you already know what an AI agent is. This course starts from the other end. You will not install anything and you will not write a single line of code. You will watch, listen and follow one small business from its first Monday with an agent to the day something goes wrong, until the words around Hermes Agent stop sounding like noise.

So what is Hermes Agent? It is open source software from Nous Research. It keeps working on its own computer, remembers what it learned, saves good ways of working as skills, and reports back through the chat apps you already use. It is not a language model, and it is not a chatbot with a fancier name. Telling those things apart is the first job of this course, because most of the confusion online starts there.

Most Hermes Agent courses teach you to install and build. That is useful if you already know why you want it. This course is for the step before: understanding. Three things make it different. First, no term arrives as a bare definition. Every key word comes with a thing you already know, and every module opens with a short glossary lesson. Second, one case runs from start to finish. Birchwood Print is a fictional online print shop with a handful of people, built for this course and named as invented, so you can see each part of the agent do real work. Third, it is honest. You will see where setups go wrong, what happened when an email went out with an invented supplier delay, and who should not use an agent at all.

What you will cover, module by module:

Module 1, What Hermes Agent Is and What It Is Made Of (0.7 hours). A working day with the agent, how it differs from a regular chatbot, how it differs from OpenClaw and similar tools, and the six parts inside it and how they link.

Module 2, The Words People Use (0.5 hours). The vocabulary you will hear in videos, forums and job posts: session search, user profile and skill file, toolsets and MCP servers, cron jobs and delivery targets.

Module 3, One Agent, Start to Finish (1.0 hours). Birchwood Print hires the agent on a Monday. You follow the Telegram front door, the first saved skill, a morning brief that runs alone, and the day an email goes wrong.

Module 4, How It Lives in Real Work (0.4 hours). A full week of ordinary use, and a clear look at where setups fail and why: rights, containers and the habits that keep mistakes small.

Module 5, What Next (1.0 hours). This last module is where the extras live. It includes a lesson on the OpenClaw and Hermes Agent noise, a second case about a freelance bookkeeper named Dana Okafor in a very different business, a lesson on what changes when the agent uses local models, a lesson on how skills are shared and checked, and a lesson to help you decide whether Hermes Agent is right for you. It also comes with a combined course memo (a printable PDF), a field vocabulary of about forty phrases you will hear in meetings and interviews, and a short guide to spotting real agent work in job posts, with five interview questions and what the interviewer wants to hear.

Each module also has a short memo you can print and a three-question quiz to check yourself. The quiz is optional and nothing is graded.

How the lessons work. Each lesson is a short video of about ten minutes with a presenter and clear pictures, built so you can follow along on a phone, a laptop or a big screen. Slides show the idea, and the voice explains why it is built that way, what it looks like in real life and what people mix it up with. You never get homework. If a term is new, the glossary lesson that opens its module has already given you a plain example. If you only need a quick refresher, the module memo gives you the main points in about five minutes of reading.

A note on the story. Birchwood Print and Dana Okafor are invented for this course, and the course says so out loud. Their numbers and days are illustrations that make the ideas concrete. Facts about Hermes Agent itself come from its public project pages and documentation, and anything the sources disagree on is described in general terms instead of with a made-up exact figure.

Who gets the most from it. If you are a founder, manager or freelancer, you will leave with enough understanding to ask good questions and to judge any offer, demo or video about agents. If you are changing careers or reading job posts, you will recognise the vocabulary and know which lines describe real agent work. If you are simply curious, you will finally know what everyone is talking about.

What is not in this course: there is no installation walkthrough, no code, no account setup, no benchmark table and no promise about prices or speed. Details that change with every release are kept out of the videos on purpose, so what you learn here stays true.

You will finish able to explain Hermes Agent in plain words, tell it apart from the things it is confused with, follow a conversation full of its vocabulary, picture how it fits into a small team's week, and decide with open eyes whether to try it yourself.

Who this course is for:

  • Complete beginners who keep hearing about Hermes Agent and want to understand it before touching it
  • Founders, managers and team leads who need to judge whether an agent could help their business
  • Job seekers who meet agent vocabulary in postings and interviews
  • Not for you if you want an install guide, a coding tutorial or a step-by-step build. This course explains, it does not set anything up
