When a team goes remote, the work usually survives. What dies is everything that used to happen by itself.

What actually breaks

Nobody overhears the useful thing anymore. Nobody notices that someone has gone quiet for three weeks. The new joiner cannot tell who to ask, so they ask nobody. And because none of this shows up in a status report, the response is almost always more meetings — which fixes nothing and eats the day. I have run distributed teams and I have made this exact mistake: I added a daily call instead of writing one document, and the call is still on somebody's calendar somewhere.

What this course actually covers

Six blocks, in the order things break. First, the mechanics of distributed work: what changes, how to organise control without surveillance, which tools and which meetings a remote team needs, and how to hire, onboard and part with someone you have never met. Second, internal communication as a system — audit, audiences, channels, rollout and measurement, instead of announcements into a chat. Third, one-to-ones, the single conversation that cannot be lost when the office goes: types, coaching, feedback, and how to roll them out across a company. Fourth, team cohesion for people who never share a room, including hybrid sessions where half the participants are on a screen. Fifth, knowledge management, which is what asynchronous communication is actually called: capture, storage, sharing, use and measurement. Sixth, culture, which in an office transmits by observation and at a distance either exists in writing or does not exist.

A note on the material

These lessons were recorded for people responsible for how a company works, so the examples come from that world: onboarding processes, engagement, retention, internal channels. If you manage a team, every framework here applies directly to yours. If you own the communication function, it applies to the whole company. I would rather name the source of the examples than have you discover it in lesson three.
