What you'll learn
Course Description
Prepare for the EDB PostgreSQL Associate certification with confidence.
PostgreSQL has become the default choice for organisations moving off proprietary databases, and demand for people who can genuinely administer it has outrun the supply of people who can prove they do. That is the gap this certification fills. The PostgreSQL project itself does not issue certifications, so an EDB-issued credential is the recognised way to put verifiable Postgres administration skill on a CV.
The exam is written rather than hands-on, which makes practice questions the right preparation tool. But do not mistake written for shallow. It targets production competence: not what a configuration parameter is called, but which one you change when connections pile up, what a checkpoint actually does to your I/O, why your vacuum is not reclaiming space, and what your recovery options are at three in the morning when the primary will not start.
This course follows the Essentials curriculum that underpins the certification, translated into exam-style questions with the reasoning fully explained.
What you get
Full-length practice tests that mirror the structure, difficulty and pacing of the live exam
A detailed explanation on every single question — the operational reasoning spelled out, not just the correct option flagged
Coverage across the full syllabus: system and physical architecture, installation and configuration, database objects and data types, users, roles and security, backup and recovery, routine maintenance and vacuum, monitoring and administration tools, performance tuning, and SQL
Configuration and output-reading questions — what a setting does, what a log line means, what a query plan is telling you
Scenario questions grounded in production problems, because that is the level this certification is pitched at
Kept current with the published exam objectives and the Postgres release cycle
Unlimited retakes, randomized question order, mobile-friendly, lifetime access
How to use this course
Sit the first test cold to find your baseline, then read every explanation — including on the questions you answered correctly, because on an administration exam a correct guess hides a gap that production will find later. When something is unclear, install Postgres locally and look. Change the parameter and watch the behaviour. Take a base backup and restore it. Run a vacuum and read the output. Break a connection limit deliberately. Postgres is free, runs anywhere, and rewards curiosity faster than almost any other database. Repeat until you clear the pass mark comfortably, then book the exam.
Worth knowing: EDB runs separate tracks for PostgreSQL and for its own Advanced Server, each with Associate and Professional levels. This course targets the PostgreSQL track at Associate level, which is the natural starting point and the prerequisite knowledge for the Professional exam.
Before you enroll
You should have some hands-on exposure to Postgres or another relational database — this is a practice bank for consolidating and testing knowledge, not a beginner tutorial. Every question here is original and written from the published curriculum. These are not brain dumps. This course is independent and is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by EDB, EnterpriseDB, or the PostgreSQL Global Development Group. PostgreSQL is a registered trademark of the PostgreSQL Community Association of Canada; EDB and EnterpriseDB are trademarks of their respective owners.
Who this course is for:
- Database administrators preparing for the EDB PostgreSQL Associate certification
- Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL DBAs migrating to PostgreSQL who need a credential that proves it
- Developers and DevOps engineers who have inherited responsibility for a Postgres database
- Data engineers and backend developers who want formal proof of Postgres competence
- Candidates planning to continue to the Professional-level certification, starting at Associate
- Anyone who has failed this exam once and needs to isolate their weak areas before re-sitting
